ESL To Credit Bridge Program

Lane's ESL to Credit Bridge Program is a new program that offers a transformative learning experience to English learners through a combination of ESL classes and credit classes. The content of the credit classes helps support the development of academic English skills such as reading, writing, listening, and speaking.

This is a program for students who are looking to jumpstart their college credit work while continuing to receive ESL support. Students participating in the ESL To Credit Bridge Program have the opportunity to take specific, transferable, credit-level classes and skills-integrated, noncredit ESL classes simultaneously.

Through this program you will:

  • Complete the Intensive ESL Program while transitioning into credit classes.
  • Complete 8-14 transferable college credits.
  • Receive acknowledgment on transcript and recognition award.
  • Take small classes that encourage discussion and debate.
  • Participate in experiential learning opportunities.

After completing the ESL Bridge Program, students transitioning into credit classes will be well-prepared for credit coursework. Students who are not planning to take credit classes after ESL program can enroll in and benefit from the Bridge Program as well.

Program Structure

  • Students in level E will take 13 hours of ESL classes and a 4 credit class with the option to add a Physical Education class for 1 credit or a dance class for 2 credits.
  • Students in level F will take 12 hours of ESL classes and a 4 credit class with the option to add a math class for up to 5 credits and a physical education class for 1 credit or a dance class for 2 credits.

*Students must meet with an advisor to discuss credit class selection before signing up for credit classes.

Program Eligibility

Current students:

  • Must earn a minimum grade of B in all classes during the last term enrolled (if applicable) and the current term.
  • Must finish the previous level (Level D to qualify for E Bridge or Level E or E Bridge to qualify for F Bridge). A student cannot skip a level through the challenge exam to qualify for the Bridge Program.
  • Can not enter directly from the Success Program SP. Students in the Success Program must complete two terms successfully with a B or higher grade in all classes to be eligible for this program.

New and returning students:

  • Must place into Level E or Level F.
  • Can not enter if they have been placed in the Success Program. Students in the Success Program must complete two terms successfully with a B or higher grade in all classes to be eligible for this program.

**Note for sponsored students: In the past, some sponsors, such as the Saudi Arabian Cultural Mission (SACM), haven't always covered the cost for their students to participate in ESL bridge programs.
