Tuition Free Course

HS/GED class of 2023 and 2024
Enroll in one tuition-free course Spring or Summer 2023 at Lane!

Get a jump start on your education by taking one course at Lane Community College at a discounted price! Lane will give you tuition money for one course. Fees are not included. For a 4-credit course, that’s at least 70% savings!

Eligibility Requirements

  • Register for one course during one of the terms before the published term refund deadline
  • You are graduating from an Oregon high school or Oregon GED program in 2023 or 2024

What you need to know

  • Tuition for your highest credit course is covered in full by Lane. We will post the tuition payment during week 2 or 3.
  • You will be responsible for standard student fees and all materials, textbooks, or course fees. Please see the class schedule for more information on additional course fees. Payment plans are available.
  • Save more money by taking an OER class with free or reduced-cost textbooks!
  • You’ll need to meet any prerequisites for the course you want to enroll in.100% refund date
  • Take one tuition-free course for spring or summer-not both. If you drop your course after the refund period, you will not be eligible for this discount in spring or summer.

Deadlines

All of the Steps to Enroll including registration in myLane, must be done by 11:59 pm on the following dates:

  • Spring term: Monday, April 10th
  • Summer term (even if the course starts in July or August): the 100% refund date  of your summer term start

These are the Steps to Enroll for Spring or Summer 2023. 

The Earn a Degree application will give your Lane student email and your student ID (L Number).

If you:

  1. Already have both of these from a previous Lane Earn a Degree application- please skip to the next step.
    Not sure if you have the right application or what email you used through the admissions portal, email Brenda Williams, williamsb@lanecc.edu.
  2. Have an L Number from College Now, you must submit the Earn a Degree application to take part in the tuition-free course program. Your L Number will stay the same.

Application Tips:

  1. Select “ Earn a Degree application”: This is the right application for the tuition discount.
  2. Social Security Number: While including your social security number is optional, if you plan to apply for financial aid (FAFSA) in the future, you'll want to provide it.

What happens after you submit your application

  1. Within one to three business days, you’ll receive your L Number and a myLane temporary password/Next Steps emails. Check your spam folder.
  2. Update your password. This will be your password for myLane, Moodle and your Lane student email address
  3. You will need to set up security questions
  4. Make sure you wrote down your my.lanecc.edu email and start to use it in the gmail app

Complete Online Application

If you are 17 or younger at the time of admissions, you will need to submit the Under 18 form.

After you and a parent sign it, take a picture of it, and submit the picture to the Enrollment Services digital drop box (use your my.lanecc.edu account).

It is required to be turned in before you can register.

Complete Under 18 Form

Course Placement is required for students taking math, writing, or courses with math and writing pre-requisites.

Most HS seniors use their HS GPA and their HS Algebra II course to determine placement. You will also be able to use any College Now courses, AP, or IB scores, Smarter Balance scores, or an online placement exam.

Make sure you enter your L Number on the last page of the Placement Survey.

Complete your Course Level Placement

If you are taking this tuition-free course after you graduate HS, please check with your financial aid office or any scholarship lender to see how this tuition-free course will impact your 23-24 aid.

Lane's Financial Aid Office

This online, interactive 1 hour orientation will help you determine an appropriate course for your one tuition-free course depending on your program of study. Brenda Williams, our Early College advisor, will answer any questions about the suggested classes after you complete the online orientation.

Another option is to enroll in RTEC 101 Gateway to College and Careers. This is a 100% free course for HS students coming to Lane.

    1. Using financial aid your first term, select “ no” 
    2. Which program are you applying for, select  "I am a high school student taking classes before high school graduation"

If you do not want to register for math or writing, you can skip this step.

If you plan to take math or writing as part of your tuition-free course, please read carefully. 

Most current HS juniors, use their HS GPA and Algebra 2 to get into college writing and math courses.  If you think you can test higher than what you placed, you will need to complete free testing through Lane.
